This 1 or 2 day course is based in the Batur Crater which not only boasts spectacular scenery but also has a wide range of surfaces and gradients for the beginner to cut their teeth on. The course is suitable for beginners as well as people that want to increase their confidence over trickier sections. It is structured as follows:
Day 1
The morning will be spent as follows:
- A brief demonstration of how the bike works and what kit you need to get started.
- Bike preparation including how to put the front wheel in safely and some basic pre-ride safety checks.
- A short ride on tarmac followed by a jeep-track ‘nursery slope’ where you will learn appropriate use of gears and control of the bike including how to stop (without going A… over T..!) and correct position for steep descents and ascents.
- A short lesson on how to tackle ‘drops’ (large steps).
Your afternoon ride will start on tarmac, and then continue on jeep track where you will encounter your first steep ascent and descent. The ride concludes with a section of narrow singletrack and a short but steep descent to give you a taste of the real thing.
Day 2
You will ride the classic Batur rim ride, which takes you around the volcano on the rim of the crater with superb views across to Mt Batur and also down to the east coast. This ride offers you the opportunity to put all of yesterday’s lessons into practice…and some. After a bit of practise on some short uphill sections you will have no excuse to put your feet down or get off, as you tackle the trickier sections of this trail! If this doesn’t get you hooked, nothing will!!
